CMC opens a gastroenterology department
The CMC (Centre Médical de la Communauté) has opened a gastroenterology department in its hospital in Lubumbashi.
What is Gastroenterology?
Gastroenterology is the specialty of medicine that studies diseases of the organs of the digestive tract: esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, anus, liver and pancreas.
Who is concerned?
Diseases of the organs of the digestive tract can affect men and women of all ages, although serious diseases occur mostly after 50 years. Children can also suffer from it.
When should you consult in gastroenterology?

Diagnose
The CMC has high quality endoscopy equipment.
Endoscopes are small cameras that are inserted through the mouth into the stomach or through the anus into the colon. Endoscopes are used to see lesions, take samples (biopsies) to study the tissues under the microscope, treat bleeding lesions or resect polyps in the colon. This examination is not painful because the endoscopes are very thin and flexible and the examinations only last a few minutes.
